What are Stretch Marks?


Stretch Marks also called Striae are narrow thin lines on Skin. They occur because of Quick Stretching or Shrinking of the Skin. Stretch marks may be normal in some individual especially Adolescence. During puberty, weight are gained quickly and this might lead to sudden stretch of the skin causing stretch marks. Although the Skin is fairly Elastic, When the Skin is Stretch suddenly, Collagen ( a component of the connective tissue which gives the skin it toughness and elasticity) production is disrupted.
Striae occurs in various parts of the body,but commonly stretch marks can be found in the Shoulder,Buttocks, legs, and even around the armpit. It is more common in Females than Males.
